March 8th marks the International Women's Day. While the world celebrates the individual cultural, political and economic achievements of women on this day, there are still many of them suffering harsh and inhumane treatment and circumstances.
Though we firmly believe that every woman has the right of celebration in honor of her achievements and contribution to community on this day, other women still question the significance of such day of celebration when their rights are constantly violated on the other days of the year.
When it comes to women's issues, most governments rush to enact international laws and convictions to guard her rights. However, this remains the easiest part because the real challenge is the implementation of women's human rights on the ground instead of merely naming or stating them.
To break the stereotype of Arab women and help better address their social, economic and political challenges, the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor’s regional office in the Palestinian territories – Gaza Strip is arranging a special event on this special occasion. Through the event, a number of women will share their experiences, ideas, hopes and dreams and how they successfully proved themselves in a male-dominated community like Gaza.
The event will also include statements from our specialized advisors, providing professional advice and methods to accelerate the participation of women as equal partners with men in achieving sustainable development, peace, security, and full respect for human rights, along with educational videos and films the will be launched by the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor in support of women's empowerment in Gaza.
The event will take place on Tuesday, March 7, at 11:00 am, Al Commodore Hotel - Gaza City.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
