Geneva - The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor and the International Institute for Rights and Development (IRDG) said in a joint statement at the United Nation Human Rights Council 44th session in Geneva that the world should intensify solidarity with the Yemenis as they their country is witnessing the worst humanitarian crisis in the world and the Palestinians under the Israeli occupation as Israel’s arbitrary practices in the occupied Palestinian territories are escalating.
In their statement, the two organizations said that parties to the conflict in Yemen, the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, also known as the Arab Coalition, and the Houthi movement, continue to ignore global efforts to end the conflict and carry out military attacks and target civilians despite the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and diseases that have taken hundreds of lives so far. Meanwhile, the Yemeni population are unable to get the minimum life basic needs, and the ghost of starvation may take the lives of hundreds of thousands.
In the occupied Palestinian territories, the two organizations said, Israel carry out its illegal practices. The Israeli government intends to annex about 30% of the West Bank territory and controls most water and agricultural resources that the Palestinian population depends on for their livelihood.
The statement recalled the sixth anniversary of the Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip in the summer of 2014, in which the Israeli forces committed indiscriminate attacks amounting to war crimes leaving thousands killed and injured, while the perpetrators still enjoy impunity.
The international community is urged more than ever to show solidarity with the Palestinians under occupation, and the Yemenis under war-firw and starvation, to show them that they are not alone in the face of death.
Euro-Med Monitor and the IRDG called on all states, especially the permanent members of the UN Security Council, to take effective actions to put an end to Israel's violations of international law and to stop its racist practices and actions in the Palestinian territories, and to put a real pressure on the Arab Coalition and the Houthis to stop human rights violations in Yemen, and peacefully end the ongoing conflict to save millions of civilians' lives.
